Ingersoll is one step closer to becoming a bicycle friendly community
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll is one step closer to becoming a bicycle friendly community.
They were given an honourable mention by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.
Ingersoll was hoping to receive a bronze medal recognition for their efforts in the Share the Road Campaign.
Deputy Mayor Fred Freeman tells Heart FM they formed a committee two years ago and have taken several steps to make the town more bicycle friendly. Over the past two years Ingersoll has installed Share the Road Signs and bike lanes in the town in hopes of encouraging more people to ride.
Freeman adds they are happy with the honourable mention are hoping to receive the bronze standard in the future.
He says the goal is to get people out of their cars and on their bikes to commute to work and school.
Oxford County is actually trying to get residents to document their kilometres on the bike this summer in hopes of reaching 1 million km's. Ingersoll is going to kick off the race to 1 million on May 4th at 6 p.m. at the Cheese Factory and is encouraging to come out for a ride around town.
