MP Khanna talked about the trade war and the possibility of a federal election this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tough times don't last, tough people do.
Oxford County's Conservative Member of Parliament Arpan Khanna provided that quote by Robert Schuller during his interview on the Heart FM morning show today.
He said nobody wants this trade war in North America right now.
"There will be some tough times ahead for Canadians and Americans, but we have to stay strong and united. We will get through this, I am confident and I have faith in Canadians because we are resilient, we roll up our sleeves, and we will get things done."
He added now is the time that we need to come together, shop local and support our fellow Canadians.
Khanna would usually be in Ottawa around this time of the year, but he's home in Oxford County while Parliament is prorogued until March 24th for the federal Liberal leadership race.
The Liberals will select their next leader on Sunday. This individual will replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but Khanna isn't expecting much to happen because the new leader would have same ideologies, policies, and ministers as Trudeau.
There has been talk about a federal election being called, and we took the opportunity to ask Khanna for his thoughts. This is what he had to say.
"Is there an election on the horizon? My crystal ball is gone for repairs so I don't know exactly, but we (the Conservatives) are ready. I know from when I go knocking on doors and talk to residents, there is definitely change on their mind from a federal government standpoint."
Circling back to the topic of tariffs, Khanna ended the interview with this message to Oxford County residents.
"My message to Oxford residents is to hold on, have faith, have hope and we will get through this. Canadians are resilient and we will find a way to make sure that we help support our workers. I know Oxford County has a lot of auto workers, we have a lot of farmers, we have a lot of spin-off jobs from the auto-sectors in our community like steel and transportation. We will feel some pain, but we will get through this together if we stay united. If I can help in any way, give me call any time. We will get through this under the one Canadian proud flag and we will never ever be the 51st state! We will always be a sovereign country that is prosperous from coast to coast."
He also took the opportunity to chat about the King Charles III Coronation Medals that were handed out in Woodstock last night. You can listen to the full interview below:
