Imagine over 100 mothers all walking together on the streets of Norwich, strollers and all.
NORWICH - It's an opportunity for local mothers to bond with each other and enjoy the beautiful summer weather.
The Sip & Stroll Society of Norwich is a weekly walking group that meets at the Little Town Cafe on Main Street Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
Amanda Buck came up with the idea after having her first child a few months ago. She was a regular at the cafe and spoke with the owner, Janelle Vrugteveen, about starting an evening activity for mothers to get together.
That's when the Sip & Stroll Society was formed and Buck says it blew up instantly.
"I built this Facebook page and Instagram page and they blew up overnight! We had 80 Facebook members in this group overnight and it continued to grow."
As of this morning, the Facebook group had 122 members and the Instagram page had 216 followers.
Buck says those who are interested can join the group at any time.
"Every Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. we meet at the cafe. We have about 15 minutes of socialization and networking and anything like that before we head out at 9:45 a.m.."
It's about a 30 to 40 minute walk, but they will cut it down to 15 to 20 minutes when it hot outside. They still meet at the cafe when rains.
Vrugteveen offers a special deal at the cafe for the mothers taking part in the walk.
"On Tuesdays we usually set out all of our syrups and toppings and we have a $5 latte deal so you can build your own custom drink. You can put anything in it so we have chocolate sauce, cold foam, etc. It's mostly iced lattes right now because it's so hot!"
Amanda Buck and Janelle Vrugteveen stopped by the Heart FM Studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Monday, July 13th. You can listen to the full interview below:
