Keeping Tori Stafford's memory alive, her father is leading a protest in Ottawa today to raise awareness on life sentences that should be upheld.
OTTAWA - The Justice 4 Tori protest is in Ottawa today.
Rodney Stafford is at Parliament Hill today, joined by several families going through a similar situation.
Stafford tells Heart FM how's he's been doing for the past decade.
"It's quite the roller coaster. It's been up and down, I've had good times in my life over the last ten years, I've had bad times in my life. I'm human. I wasn't expecting this, but I will stand up and do what I can to make changes against what happened."
The protest is to raise awareness on life sentences that should be upheld.
And although the trip is quite a distance from Woodstock, Stafford says even if you're not able to join him in Ottawa, you can still raise awareness.
"Basically we're trying to push as many people as we can to try to make it out to Ottawa. It is a distance from Woodstock and I understand that, but the more people we can have on the Hill, the bigger the statement we'll make. Hopefully, just by spreading the word, if not being able to make it out, spreading the word and just having the word out there and reaching the right people with our voices will make a difference."
Stafford was involved in a similar protest in October last year, when a support rally was held in front of the Court house.
Today's protest coincides with the tenth anniversary of Tori Stafford's kidnapping, which Stafford says he wanted to do today in order to keep Victoria's memory alive.
"I wasn't even planning a second protest but after finding out that both are still sitting in medium security when they both should be sitting in maximum security, I will continue to fight for justice for Victoria and I wanted to make a statement ten years exactly to the day that Victoria was taken. A decade later and I'm still fighting for justice, it's not right."
