Jaclyn VanHappen Back On Stage

Jaclyn VanHappen (submitted)

Jaclyn VanHappen has achieved some big things in her 27 years on the planet.

OXFORD COUNTY - After a two year hiatus to begin a family and simply live life, Jaclyn VanHappen is ready start performing again.  The Tillsonburg native will be opening for Canadian rocker, Sarah Smith on May 5th at Sammy Krenshaw's.

Van Happen says it's going to be a great show especially sharing the stage with someone like Sarah Smith.

"There's gonna be a whole lot of girl rock going on, I think we make a pretty good pair, because we are both singer song writers and we are both pretty good with stage presence."

London Ontario native, Smith has gained a large following over seas after a well received European tour recently.  Between the two award winning artists the show is almost a guaranteed good time.

During a brief stint away from her music, VanHappen has had some revelations or "adulting" as she calls it.  VanHappen says that something amazing has come from having a baby and taking a step back from an industry full of pressures was really important.

"When your confident and feel great about yourself, you can just do so much more, your not as limited. Were all just so hard on ourselves that way, with how attractive you are.  If your confident with your personality, I think it shines through more."

VanHappen says she used to feel overwhelmed by the pressure to look a certain way, to sing a certain way and often found herself very removed from her work and sense of self.  She is on a mission through her song writing to let young women know that they don't have to be perfect because she doesn't believe that perfect exists.

Guitar in hand, this rising star isn't looking too far into the future, she says after the death of her uncle, well known  UFC trainer, Shawn Tompkins, she has realized what is really important;  family, love and staying true to who you are unapologetically.

The songstress has a few new pieces she is ready to record and expects to release an EP in the near future.
