An Ingersoll family is perservering an unimaginable set of circumstances.
A heart wrenching story out of Ingersoll.
The Murray family first had to deal with the diagnosis that their 4-year-old son Joey has leukemia, and a few weeks later, the family's mother, Doretta passed away suddenly.
Doctors have had no firm answer to her passing, other than she suffered from a collapsed airway.
The father of the family, Scott Murray has been balancing the after care for Doretta, while taking Joey to leukemia treatments, and taking care of this two other boys. "It's constantly trying to balance your attention between caring for Doretta, then the after care for Doretta, caring for Joe and at the same time trying to care for the other two boys Riley and T.J.. And somewhere in there trying to care for myself too."
Murray says Doretta went into "super mom" mode, getting little sleep and spending all of her energy and time concentrating on Joey. Three weeks later, she passed away.
One thing Murray has on his side is his faith and his community. The Assistant Pastor at Hi-Way Pentecostal Church says support has been overwhelming from the community.
"This community has stepped up, we've been a huge part of our community for the five years plus that we've been here, coaching the football team in town, being part of parent council, Doretta does Epicure parties and all these things and we're always community-minded. A couple of people said well coach, you've walked us through everything so we're walking with you through this."
Murray says Joey's strength through his leukemia treatments has been a silver lining for him.
A trust fund has been established for the family. Donations can be made to the "Murray Family Trust" at any TD Canada Trust, account# 503-6356871. Cheques can be made payable to "Shawn Murray and Scott Murray in trust." Click here to follow Joeystrong on Facebook.
