It's official, Arpan Khanna will become the next Conservative Member of Parliament for Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County will stay blue.
Arpan Khanna won the federal byelection last night and will become the next Member of Parliament for Oxford County. With 266/267 polls reporting on the Elections Canada website this morning, Khanna received 43 percent of the vote with 16,144 ballots cast in his favour.
Liberal candidate David Hilderley finished in second place with 13,574 votes, while the NDP's Cody Groat finished in third with 3,931 votes.
Christian Heritage Party candidate John Markus finished in fourth place with 1,645 votes and the PPC's Wendy Martin was behind him with 1,248 votes. Green Party candidate Cheryle Baker secured 820 votes and Independent candidate John Turmel finished the night with 166 votes.
Elections Canada says 37,528 registered voters cast their ballots in Oxford. This means voter turn out was 38.19 percent, but this does not include the electors those who registered on election day.
Meanwhile, three other federal byelections took place across the country last night.
Conservative candidate Branden Leslie won the riding of Portage-Lisgar, beating PPC leader Maxime Bernier.
Ben Carr followed in his father Jim Carr's footsteps, winning the Winnipeg South Centre riding for the Liberals. The Liberals also won the Montreal riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grace-Westmount with Anna Gainey.
