Poppy boxes will be popping up in Woodstock shops and businesses as of Friday October 28th.
WOODSTOCK - Poppy sales are about to begin in the city of Woodstock. The 2016 poppy campaign is set to begin on Friday October 28th.
Poppy Chair Maureen Dennis says the proceeds help veterans in the area.
"For any veteran, they do not have to be a legion veteran, any veteran in our community that needs our assistance that Veterans Affairs doesn't help, we help them."
The money raised also benefits the Woodstock Hospital, Sakura House and Meals on Wheels.
Mayor Trevor Birtch wants everyone to purchase a poppy.
"I encourage everyone to make sure they wear a poppy to show their respect to the veterans that have served and those that are serving right now to keep our country safe. Remember there is going to be a special time of remembrance and celebration on November 11th at the cenotaph."
People can also purchase a wreath to lay at the cenotaph during the Remembrance Day ceremony. For more information you can call the Woodstock Legion Office 519-537-3112.
