Local Public Health officials are encouraging everyone to get the flu shot this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - Still time to get your flu shot for 2020.
The next family clinic offered by Southwestern Public Health in Woodstock is fully booked, however you can still get your flu shot at most pharmacies or by calling your local doctor.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says it's more important than ever to get your flu shot in 2020.
"So what we don't want to see is something called a twindemic where we have an epidemic of both COVID and influenza at the same time. Every year when influenza hits, our emergency departments are stuffed full, our hospital beds are stuffed full and now we are a little bit fearful."
Dr. Lock says getting your flu shot is the best way to protect yourself from getting the flue.
"One way to stop the flu virus is to get that flu virus. We do really encourage people to get the flu vaccine so we don't have the twindemic problem get out of hand."
The flu is especially worrisome for seniors and people with underlying health conditions.
The Province has ordered more flu shots this year. Rexall still does not have flu shots available after running out early in the season, however they are expected to be getting more soon.
