Owner of Modern Hipster Antiques, Marty Gebel is co-hosting Cottage Life Network Show: Backroad Bounty.
INGERSOLL - If you've caught an episode of the new Cottage Life television show Backroad Bounty, you may notice a familiar face.
Owner of Modern Hipster Antiques, Marty Gebel is one of the co-hosts of the new one hour show which see Gebel and a friend searching for hidden treasures across the province.
London, Ontario native and Co-host Peter 'Bam Bam' Bamford says his involvement in the show is a result of a recommendation Gebel made to producers.
"They gave me a call and they are like, will you do a pilot of tv with us? I thought they were joking. I was like 'you've got to be kidding me?!' It was serious. They came down. We shot a pilot. They told me they were going to do 13 episodes and they would get back to us and they had a really good feeling about it. Thirteen is my lucky number. As soon as they said there was going to be 13 episodes I looked at Marty and was like 'holy crap, we are going to get a tv show!'"
Gebel says it's much different than other picker shows.
"We really wanted to focus on the history of the items, the stories behind them, the people we were seeing, the properties we were visiting and really have fun and not make it a cash grab but at the same time also buying what we can to resell or even keep."
"We were allowed to basically buy whatever we wanted and we got to keep the items, which was good," said Gebel. "If we were buying with the network's money we would end up buying for the sake of tv sometimes if there wasn't anything we were particularly interested in but there was something there. We never bought for the sake of making tv. We bought what we wanted, whatever we liked or what we thought we could resell."
Backroad Bounty airs Monday's at 9pm on Cottage Life Network.
