If you're hitting the roads this long weekend, make sure you're following the rules.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Civic Holiday long weekend has finally arrived.
Constable Stacey Culbert says Oxford OPP will be extra vigilant on the roads over the next couple of days.
"We have a lot of people that may have an extra day off work or two or their starting or ending their vacation. We do see an increase in drinking and we're just hoping that people can realize if you're going to be drinking make sure you do so in a safe environment and certainly don't get behind the wheel of a vehicle."
Officers are going to be on the lookout for drivers who are distracted, speeding and driving aggressively.
Culbert says they will be charging drivers who don't move over for parked emergency vehicles.
"There is a law that tells people if there are emergency services vehicles on the side of the road, they do have an obligation to move over."
This applies to ambulances, fire department vehicles, police cruisers and tow trucks.
