March Break Traffic Initiative

Woodstock police prepare for their March Break traffic initiative.

WOODSTOCK - With students off from school celebrating March Break next week Woodstock Police will be amping up their traffic initiative.  A zero tolerance approach will be taken and Community Service Officer Constable Steve McEwen explains the most common traffic problems within the city. "Failing to stop for a red light is number one, what we need is drivers to do is focus making a plan before you go know where you are going.  It seems that people are distracted and not just by the hand-held devices, but by other people in their vehicle and not paying attention to the task at hand which is focusing on the roadway ahead of them."  

The Norwich Avenue corridor as well as Wilson Street will be heavily monitored next week; one of the reasons being an increase in pedestrian traffic.

McEwen states what the zero tolerance approach will mean for drivers. "Well generally zero tolerance is for when violators are stopped they will be getting a ticket, there won't be warnings the intent is to stop violators in that area."  McEwen adds how to avoid receiving a ticket in the coming weeks."In general, all I can say is please put your cell phones away and focus on the task at hand, which is driving. Be prepared to stop when you need to and be on the lookout for pedestrians and other vehicles around you."  

Woodstock Police strongly urge you to use common sense when getting behind the wheel of your vehicle.
