Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will formally resign
OTTAWA - We now know when Mark Carney will become the 24th Prime Minister of Canada.
His swearing ceremony is set to take place in the Rideau Hall ballroom at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time tomorrow, after the formal resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Governor General Mary Simon will preside over the ceremony and Carney's new cabinet will also be sworn in.
The Former Bank of Canada Governor was appointed Leader of the Liberal Party on Sunday after a landslide victory in the Liberal leadership race. He secured close of 86 percent of the vote and he has promised a "seamless" and "quick" transition into office since then.
Many people have been preparing for a federal election to be called once Carney becomes Prime Minister, and before the House of Commons returns. During Trudeau's resignation announcement on January 6th, he also revealed that Parliament had been prorogued until March 24th.
