A 1.45-million-dollar grant from the Ministry of Transportation will help benefit the Inter-Community Program in Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg has received a major funding boost from the Ministry of Transportation.
They have been approved for a $1.45 million grant for the Inter-Community Program.
It will connect Tillsonburg with other communities including Woodstock, Ingersoll, Langton and Bayham. They're also hoping to include London someday.
Mayor Stephen Molnar says this is wonderful news for Tillsonburg residents.
"This is great news for our area as our residents will soon find it much easier to get to medical appointments and access other essential services,"
Molnar adds it will benefit those who have troubles getting around.
"The funding is particularly important to seniors, youth, persons with disabilities and others who face ongoing transportation challenges."
CAO David Calder says 66 municipalities applied for the grant; but only 40 received the funding in the end.
"I'd like to thank the staff and community partners who prepared the application, as well as the citizens who have done their part over the years to ensure that public transit remains on everyone's agenda."
The province is investing $30 million to improve transportation in municipalities that are currently not served, or undeserved by public transit.
