NDP's Smith

Locals will be heading to the polls one month from today to select their next provincial government.

OXFORD COUNTY -- With the provincial election exactly one month from today, our local NDP candidate says he is ready.

All this week Heart FM will be taking a closer look at each of our local candidates starting with Bryan Smith, who was named to the position as NDP representative on April 27 with the election called later that week.

Smith says his party had hoped the proposed minority Liberal budget would have had some substantial content so an election could have been avoided.

"I will represent change. We have had 10 years of Liberals provincially, we've had 20 years of the Tories in opposition most of that time in our county and I think it's time for Oxford County to be represented in our government."

Smith says he and his campaign team are ready to hit the ground running.

"In fact there are a number of things and some really interesting things going to happen in terms of social media and they are coming very soon. Canvassing will start very soon and the number of people who have volunteered to help us all across this riding has been quite significant so I think that there are a lot of people in Oxford County who are ready for a change and want to bring the NDP forward to make those changes."

Smith says the Liberals have shown they can't make good on their promises including one which included the creation of a Financial Accountability Office.

"Which would look at things in the way that Kevin Page, the Federal Financial Budget Officer would do and say yep, what you're saying there will work, the finances are right, you have the money to do that, before something gets started so you don't keep piling up debt on things. It's quite interesting that they chose not to deliver that and this is one of the reasons I think people will want to vote NDP."

Tune in to Heart FM all week as we hear from each of our four current candidates.  Tuesday, we will hear from incumbent PC candidate Ernie Hardeman.  Wednesday we'll talk with Green candidate Mike Farlow and Thursday Liberal candidate Dan Moultan.
