The new Oxford County Council will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today and their first official meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. tonight, where they will look over a draft budget for 2023.

OXFORD COUNTY - It's going to be a busy day for the new Oxford County Council.

The swearing-in ceremony will be taking place at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon and that's when the new Warden will be selected as well.

Six new members will be joining County Council for this term including Tillsonburg Mayor Deb Gilvesy, Ingersoll Mayor Brian Petrie, Norwich Mayor Jim Palmer, East Zorra-Tavistock Mayor Phil Schaefer, Woodstock Mayor Jerry Acchione, and City-County Councillor Bernia Wheaton.

The new council will meet again at 7:00 p.m. this evening in order to look over the draft budget for 2023. It's a $305-million plan, which includes $84-million in capital expenses. The list of capital projects includes multi-year construction upgrades to the Tillsonburg Wastewater Treatment Plant, an expansion to the Drumbo Wastewater Treatment Plant, and several renewable energy projects.

The draft budget also includes the investment of $53.1-million for capital reserves and a levy increase of 5.7 percent ($70.3-million).

The new County Council has special budget meetings planned for Wednesday November 30th and Monday December 5th, and they're hoping to approve it on Wednesday January 11th.
