NORWICH - The community of Norwich is once again proving why there is nothing quite like living in a small town.
Last week, 52 year old Mike Gratton suffered a horrific snowmobile accident, causing life altering injuries and is still in the hospital. Jamie VanVleit decided to start a meal train, so the family didn't have to worry about cooking while they were going back and forth to the hospital.
"We had 66 people sign up for the meal train, all 66 people have selected a date to drop off a meal and essentially they will drop off a cooler at the front porch. So we have booked them all the way through February until the end of March, so they have meals set up and they don't have to worry about having everyone fed while they travel back and forth to the hospital to visit Mike."
VanVleit says Mike is recovering at the hospital and is doing about as well as can be expected right now.
"Mike is doing as well as can be expected, he does have serious injuries but the doctors are saying that everything is going quite well and he is on the road to recovery."
She adds the family is very grateful for all of the support.
"The Gratton's want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support from the community. Mike is obviously a really important member of the community, as a friend, as a coach as a business owner and we are looking forward to helping him on his road to recovery."
They are no longer accepting people for the meal train, as they are booked for the next two months. A GoFundMe has also been set up for the family if anyone is interested in donating, they can do so online here.
