OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Federation of Agriculture (OCFA) has named their 2025 Hall of Fame recipient.
On April 22nd, George Gilvesy was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame, and his photo will be displayed in the Oxford County Council building. The Agricultural Hall of Fame Award honours an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership and an unwavering dedication to strengthening the rural community and the broader agricultural industry. Gilvesy has spent over 46 years taking Canadian agriculture to higher limits on a global stage.
He began as a tobacco grower in Tillsonburg, then moved into powerful advocacy roles, and eventually led the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers through a period of unprecedented growth. His work has span from international trade, labour reform, and climate policy, which has put in safe gaurds for the livelihoods of countless farmers across the nation.
Also, the Doan Family was given the Family Farm Award during their annual general meeting in January, which recognizes an intergenerational farming operation that demonstrates progressive achievements and a deep commitment to community service.
The Doan Family farm began in Norwich in 1919, and has now spread to multiple properties. They manage a diverse range of enterprises including, dairy, turkey broiler, beef, and extensive cash crop operations.
The OCFA congratulates the Doan Family and George Gilvesy for their remarkable contributions to the agricultural sector.
