Ontario Education Workers to Meet With Mediator

CUPE agrees to mediation as contract talks between the government and education workers continue.

Ontario education workers such as librarians, custodians and early childhood educators have agreed to mediation as contract talks continue.

According to CUPE, the union that represents 55,000 education workers in Ontario, the assistance of a mediator is welcome.

Another bargaining date has been added, and the parties will meet next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

This comes as the union awaits a "no board" report.

The report was requested last week.

If it's issued by a conciliator, workers will be able to strike 17 days later.

Laura Walton, president of CUPE's Ontario School Boards Council of Unions, says she hopes the request for a no board report would put pressure on the government to negotiate a settlement.
