The Ford Government has decided to close all golf courses during the lockdown Doug Breen with GolfNorth Properties is not happy about it.
OXFORD COUNTY - Golfers are livid as courses across the Province are closed during the third wave of the pandemic.
Ontario is the only jurisdiction in North America where golf courses are closed right now.
Regional Vice President of GolfNorth Properties Doug Breen says they proved last year that golfing is a safe activity.
"Last year in Ontario, over 20 million rounds of golf were played, every single one of those golfers had their name and information in our database and we were not contacted once as an industry for contact tracing. There was not cases of COVID-19 being transmitted on a golf course."
Breen says they had to temporarily lay off between 400-500 employees yesterday with the news. Breen says he understands you can make the debate on whether or not golf is essential but in his mind, golf is definitely essential.
"I think that mental and physical release are important, I think that adult recreation like golf, is every bit as important as playground equipment for kids."
