The Ford Government will propose changes to the Ticket Sales Act in the coming days.

ONTARIO - The Ford Government is looking to cap ticket resale prices in Ontario.

The government says it will table proposed changes to the Ticket Sales Act, which would illegal for tickets to be re-sold for more than their original cost, including fees, service charges and applicable taxes.

Stephen Crawford, the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, says this law would law would apply to tickets for concerts, sports games, and other live events.

"With these new measures, consumers would no longer need to worry about being ripped-off in the ticket resale market, and more families and fans would have the opportunity to see their favourite band or sports team perform live."

Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden says Ontarians have been the victims of price gouging, which prevents them from experiencing these events.

"The use of resale practices that dramatically drive up the price of resale tickets for families to be able to attend major events isn’t fair, and we want more people to have the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of Ontario’s live entertainment scene."

Stan Cho, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, says changing the Ticket Sales Act will make live experiences more accessible.

"Ontario offers a wide range of live events, and by putting reasonable limits on resale ticket prices, we’re helping make them more affordable for residents and visitors."
