Youth caught performing a good deed will receive a special treat from Oxford OPP this winter
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford OPP are heating things up this winter with free hot chocolate for good behaviour.
Constable Lisa Narancsik says they are looking to connect with kids this winter. "In the winter/fall colder months we do what's called Operation Heat. And what is it is officer who see youth doing things that show positive behaviour, they'll stop, talk to the youth and give them a coupon for Operation Heat they get a free regular hot chocolate from Max."
There are many different things an officer might notice a kids doing that could warrant an Operation Heat coupon accord to Narancsik, "Well maybe you'll see someone at the grocery store helping someone else. Maybe you see them helping a little person across the street, or maybe you see them helping a senior down town - things like that. Just promoting positive behaviours."
In the summer months the OPP have a similar program called Operation Freeze - Narancsik says the point of both these initiatives is to build a positive relationship with youth. "Well we want youth to know that police are there to help - to promote good relations with the public, and have good relationships with youth so that they know that we are there if they need any type of assistance. That we're not always the people giving out bad tickets, but we give out good tickets as well."
