1-3pm at 126 Beale St. a free meal will be provided with free transportation
WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing and Unifor 636 is making sure everyone has somewhere to go this Thanksgiving.
This time of year can be hard on many people with so many holidays packed so closely together. This free Thanksgiving dinner hopes to bring some cheer to people who might not be able to provide a full family meal or have no one to share the day with.
Unifor 636's Chair of the Recreation Committee Scott Bradford says this event has been going on for close to 18 years now. "It has really become a community event. Last year we had over 300 people. So it's just a case where it's a place where everyone can come and sit down and everyone can enjoy a nice meal."
Bradford says thanks to many different community groups and sponsors the meal will have all the fixings of a traditional Thanksgiving feast. "We do try to give a whole variety as if you were to sit down with your own meal; it's turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and vegetables and gravy and cranberry sauce and all that."
Woodstock Taxi is helping out as well. "People can call them and they'll come pick them up if you're not able to get to the hall and then they basically just circle. So when you're done your meal and you want to go home, they'll just take you home," says Bradford.
The dinner is Thanksgiving Monday from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Unifor Hall in Woodstock
