The latest numbers from Public Health Ontario paint a bleak picture when it comes to opioid epidemic in the Province.
They show that nearly 1,500 people died from an opioid overdose in 2018. The actual number is 1,473, which is a 17 percent jump from 2017.
The data also shows that the amount of emergency room visits from opioid overdoses has also spiked.
In Oxford County, 400 to 1200 residents may be at risk of experiencing harms related to opioid and other substance misuse. Opioid-related deaths have increased slightly since 2005, with seven deaths (6.2 per 100,000 population) of Oxford County residents attributed to opioid use in 2016. Women in Oxford County experience higher rates of opioid-related hospitalization than men.
