It was a busy long weekend for OPP officers in the West Region. Oxford County officers laid 18 total charges in four days.
WEST REGION/OXFORD COUNTY - 1,815 charges were laid on OPP-patrolled roads.
During the Civic Holiday weekend, officers from the West Region conducted 2,107 traffic stops from July 31st until August 3, focusing on negative driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries, and property damage on the roadways. The behaviours included speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving. They also enforced the move-over law during the campaign. Over the four days, these are how the charges were distributed: 856 speeding charges, 178 seatbelt charges, 14 distracted driving charges, 45 impaired driving charges, and 11 Move Over charges.
In Oxford County, there were 18 total charges laid by officers. Speeding led the way with 11, followed by seatbelt charges at 6, and there was one distracted driving charge.
