If you're planning on hitchhiking to Pottahawk Point, you better think again. As the annual party is set to take place this morning, Norfolk OPP say they will be handing out charges to anyone caught hitchhiking after several people were stranded at the point over the past few years. Constable Ed Sanchuk says while police want you to have a good time, they also want the driver of your boat to be sober. "Don't be surprised if you're stopped by police to enquire about the sobriety of your vessel operator and the amount of emergency equipment you have on board as well as life preservers. We just want everyone to have a safe day, have a great time, meet new friends but the main thing we want to stress is safety, safety, safety." Sanchuk says if you become distressed while out at the point there are several numbers located on the beach, and OPP ask that you reference that number when calling in for help.
