Optimist Club Returning To Woodstock

Optimism is in the air in Woodstock to start the New Year. A movement is afoot to start up an Optimists Club in the city. It's been several years since Woodstock has had an Optimists Club, and Laura Barker from the Norwich Club, whose helping get the Woodstock Club off the ground explains what these clubs are all about. "Basically the clubs are free to choose projects in their community that fulfill the needs of kids. So that's the idea behind the Woodstock Club, we'll be taking a look at the needs of kids in the community, and addressing those needs." Barker adds support to start the Woodstock Club is coming both from within the city, as the interest level is high, as well as from outside of the community. "Norwich and the Burford Clubs are getting together to sponsor the Optimist Club of Woodstock. We give a financial commitment to start the club up and then members from both clubs are out there recruiting and finding new members. We help them along for the first year, or longer if they need it." And so they're looking for interested, optimistic people to join the revival of the club in Woodstock. The time commitment can vary, from a couple of hours a month, to as much time as you're willing to commit. Anyone interested can attend an information night on January 17th at the Woodstock Legion from 6-8PM. It's a drop-in format.
