The boundary adjustment agreement between Woodstock and South-West Oxford council was approved by Oxford County council and it will now be sent to the provincial government for final approval.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County council has approved the boundary adjustment agreement between Woodstock City council and South-West Oxford council.
The agreement between the two councils would see approximately 250 acres north of Karn Road transferred to Woodstock.
Following their approval at last Wednesday's council meeting, Warden Larry Martin explains what the next step will be.
"There's a lot of steps that they have to take and the next big one will be having to get sanctioned from the province, but there's a lot of stuff they have to cover off before then."
Prior to getting County council's approval, Woodstock and SWOX council reached an agreement earlier this month. They went through a lengthy process, which saw them first agree on the adjustment in principle before holding a public consultation in August.
The information will now be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for final approval and the province is expected to make a decision before the end of the year.
Martin says County council is in support of the agreement.
"There are concerns but at the same time we have to recognize the fact that the two are willing to co-operate and work together and if they're willing to then why should we stand in the way."
If it's approved, the agreement is expected to go into effect on January 1st, 2020.
