The County will be hiring a shared emergency services coordinator to look after the entire County.
Oxford County council has agreed to enter into a shared services agreement for their emergency services.
Basically what this means is, instead of having each municipality be responsible for their emergency services plan, the County would hire a shared emergency services coordinator who would look after the entire County. Supervisor of Emergency Management Diane Marshall tells Heart FM this would improve our emergency planning capabilities.
"Through the shared service agreement we will be able to reduce duplication of activities that we do throughout the year, in preparing for emergencies and training and exercising with our first responders in our municipal staff."
Marshall says the emergency services programs in Oxford really need to be supportive of one another.
"Because our emergency response services work so closely together on a day to day basis, that it's critical that our emergency plans are also linked very closely with all those services and the municipalities and they need to reflect that coordinated response so we can deal with a disaster when the time comes."
There is some cost associated to the move as you will have to hire one full time position to handle the job.
