Oxford County paramedics are being recognized for all the hard work and dedication they put into their jobs and into the community.
WOODSTOCK - Three paramedics from Oxford County EMS have been awarded with Exemplary Service Medals.
The medals are given to paramedics who have over 20 years of experience on the job and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Ted Sanders, Mike Maycock and Jim McDonald were presented with the medals last week. Maycock says it is always nice to be recognized for the work you do in the community.
"I was very honoured and two aspects of the award, the first one acknowledging my years of service and my exemplary years of service here and secondly acknowledging the community work that I do outside of EMS."
Maycock says the job comes with a lot of highs and lows and talks about how he tries to treat people when responding to an emergency.
"Keep in mind that they are at their worst time and a little bit of compassion goes a long way, a hand on the shoulder, I'm here to help, how can I help you, that aspect of things goes a long way with people who are at their lowest point."
Another paramedic Ryan Orton was also honoured with an Oxford County Award for Excellence in Leadership after being nominated by peers.
