The Oxford Drive In will not be able to open during the third lockdown due to provincial restrictions.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford Drive In was allowed to operate during the first two lockdowns, but the Province has mandated it to close for the third one.
Owners Angila Peters and Adam Shaw were confused by the move as the Drive In allows for physical distancing and you don't even need to leave your car. Peters says they just don't understand the reasoning behind this move, especially as so many other businesses are allowed to stay open.
"It really didn't make any sense to us because we have always followed the rules but even a drive in, in general you are in your vehicle for 95 percent of the time, accept to use the bathroom and we have single use bathrooms and we don't even have the food truck right now, so literally, no one is getting out of the car."
Peters says they really still trying to make sense of everything.
"We will always follow the rules, we are not about to open when we have been told not to, we honestly feel like they should have just shut down everything so it is an open playing field, it doesn't seem fair this time but we will wait."
The Drive In does deliver popcorn and treats and will continue to do so while they are shut down.
Peters says they actually had secured the rights to the release of Kong vs Godzilla, which they were only allowed to show a few times before being shut down on Saturday.
"We were open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday because we were given first rights to Godzilla vs King Kong, only because the local theatres are closed, they don't normally give drive ins first run movies and then we were forced to close for Saturdays showing, so a lot of people were coming for Saturday, came on Friday."
They had to issue some refunds for the cancelled show, while others took a gift card. The plan know is to wait for the next announcement from the Province and they are hoping to be able to open again soon.
