Oxford County high schools didn't rate all that high in a report from the Fraser Institute. The federal think tank judged Ontario's high schools based on overall academic performance, and released a list this week, ranking all 718 public high schools in the province. Locally, St. Mary's and Glendale High Schools ranked the highest at 390th. IDCI was next at 432. Huron Park was 482. And CASS and WCI were ranked tied at 587th out of 718 schools. Thames Valley's Director of Education Bill Tucker says he doesn't like the rankings, because schools shouldn't be judged just on academics. "When I visit Glendale and take a look at the new dance program they have there, it is just amazing. When I take a look at the History that Huron Park offers...we have parents requesting their sons and daughters go to these schools because of the programs they offer." Tucker also made reference to special education at WCI and technology courses offered at CASS. He adds EQAO Scores and graduation rates at Oxford County's schools are on par with, or better than provincial averages. You can check out the rankings for yourself here.
