Two programs in Perth County geared towards helping the youth is looking for volunteers.
PERTH COUNTY - The Perth District Health Unit is on the lookout for volunteers for two of their youth programs.
The Teen Esteem and Elements programs are geared towards students in Grades 5 and 6. Teen Esteem focuses the girls and Elements is meant for boys.
Public Health Nurse Courtney Macintosh says they both address a variety of topics kids are facing at that age.
"Some of the topics that we cover are self esteem, body image, personal choices, stress and coping and social media safety. Those are just to name a few."
Macintosh says they are looking for mentors for our local youth.
"We're looking for adult men and women from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life who enjoy working with youth. Our number one priority is they enjoy working with youth, but also individuals who have daytime availability to meet with the students for one hour a week over the lunch time for six weeks."
Each mentor will be paired with a group of 4 to 8 children. Each program usually has about 25 students sign up from schools across the county.
Those interested in volunteering can find more information online here or call 519-271-7600 with extension 305. The volunteer screening process will include an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.
