Phone Scam in Norfolk County

Norfolk O-P-P are reminding residents to be aware of the latest phone scam on carbon tax.

NORFOLK COUNTY - Norfolk OPP is warning residents to be wary of a new "Carbon Tax" scam that's been circulating after several homeowners received calls on Monday, December 17th from individuals claiming they could help save money with the new carbon tax.

When a resident receives a call, the scammer will give several details about the savings and provide them with an opportunity to "cap" the carbon tax.

The caller will then ask for personal information, such as a resident's account number on their Hydro One bill. A second request will ask for banking information, with the claim that they will send a $30 deposit to the homeowner's account.

OPP is urging all residents to stay alert for this carbon tax scam, as well as several others that have been circulating telephone lines across Norfolk County.
