An upcoming exhibit at the Woodstock Art Gallery is going to be all about Charles M. Schulz, the man behind Charlie Brown.
WOODSTOCK - The upcoming exhibit at the Woodstock Art Gallery will take a look at the artist behind one of the most influential comic strips in history.
The Life and Art of Charles M. Schulz will make its debut tomorrow and it will be on display until February 20th.
He debuted the Peanuts comic strip 50 years ago, featuring popular characters like Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Woodstock. Schulz retired in December of 1999 and his final comic strip was released just hours before his death on February 12th, 2000. He was 77-years-old when he passed away and the exhibit in Woodstock takes a look at his life dating back to his Minnesota roots.
Thirty of his Peanuts comic strips will be on display alongside some photos and some quotes from the man himself. The exhibit will also feature comic strips from other artists like George Herriman (Krazy Kat), Milton Carniff (Terry and the Pirates), and Elzie C. Segar (Thimble Theatre Starring Popeye) to show how they influenced Shulz's work.
This exhibit is also in celebration of the City of Woodstock's 125th anniversary.
