Operation Impact is a national traffic safety initiative that targets high-risk driving behaviours
OXFORD - The Oxford OPP wants to make sure everybody has a safe and happy Thanksgiving long weekend.
Officers will be out and about to make sure everyone is driving safe, driving smart, and driving sober to and from get togethers with their friends and family members.
The local detachment is participating in Operation Impact, which is a national traffic safety initiative that targets high-risk driving behaviours that could lead to collisions. This includes impaired driving, aggressive driving, and distracted driving. Officers will also be on the lookout to make sure seatbelts and car seats are being used properly.
Thirteen people were killed on OPP patrolled roadways across the province over Thanksgiving last year.
