SWPH is working on a pop up vaccine clinic in Tillsonburg. No word yet on expanded hours at the mass vaccination sites, however vaccines are going to local hospitals and will start to become more mobile.
TILLSONBURG - Southwestern Public Health is working on developing a pop up vaccine clinic for the Town of Tillsonburg.
Tillsonburg Town Council at their last meeting asked the Health Unit for a brick and mortar site. Today the Province announced 380 additional pharmacies that will begin to administer the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and they included 3 in Oxford County, 2 in Ingersoll and 1 in Woodstock. Tillsonburg was once again not included. The pharmacy decision was entirely up to the Province.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they understand the need for some type of clinic in Tillsonburg.
"So some vaccine is now going to hospitals for use in those people with highest risk medical conditions. We are also going to start a pop up clinic in Tillsonburg, which we are going to be running in conjunction with our EMS partners. We have the pharmacies coming on board and we will be getting the AstraZeneca vaccines soon."
An exact date and location of the pop up clinic hasn't been confirmed yet. Dr. Lock says they are hoping to have it up and running during the second week half of April.
Right now the Health Unit is offering more doses every week at the mass vaccinations clinics in Woodstock and St. Thomas. Dr. Lock says they stared out doing 350 people a day in Woodstock and are looking to get those numbers to over 500.
"Once we maximize our efficacy, then we will start to look at expanding hours. The other thing we are looking at is to use other channels of vaccine deliver."
Dr. Lock says now that we have the Moderna vaccine they will have a better opportunity to be mobile with the vaccine.
"We hope to be working with some of our primary care practices to get them some Moderna and we will be looking carefully at how we can reach our home bound citizens through our mobile methods."
You can find more information about the local vaccine rollout online here.
