Porter Airlines is introducing increased COVID-19 safety measures for staff and passengers.
Following the federal government's announcement about mandating vaccinations for federally-regulated businesses and workers, the airline has released details of its new COVID-19 vaccination policy for employees and air travelers.
Starting September 8th, when the airline resumes service to select Canadian destinations, team members must either be fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the start of every shift.
"We have a responsibility to ensure a safe workplace. With vaccines readily available for everyone in Canada and the U.S., and their proven effectiveness, requiring vaccination or regular testing is a critical measure to protect the health of our team members," said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines. "We are providing a testing option to ensure that personal circumstances are accommodated."
The company also says they support the government's plan to require all air travelers to be fully vaccinated.
Porter is the first Canadian airline to introduce such safety measures.
