WOODSTOCK - A 13 year old girl is planning a protest in downtown Woodstock this weekend.
13 year old Pheonix Scott has started a group called Project Pheonix. The teens of Project Pheonix are having the rally in Woodstock, and one in London is also scheduled for early next week. Scott actually lives in Chatsworth. They claim the rally is to protest the lockdown, school closures and to stand in solidarity with Quebec against the curfew. They will also be collecting clothing donations for the homeless downtown and serving free food and warm drinks to the homeless.
Woodstock Police are aware of the protest. In an email exchange with Heart FM, WPS spokesperson Shaylyn Jackson stated the following:
"The Woodstock Police Service are aware of the event and have been contacted by the organizers. We will attempt to discourage the event from taking place and charges will be laid where appropriate if evidence exists to support charges. Our police response will always try to balance the right to a peaceful protest as guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms with the health and safety of the community. We hear the community's concerns and want to assure them that the Woodstock Police Service will have an operational plan prepared that will make sure that a sufficient number of officers are in place."
Several residents have voiced their concerns about the rally online. Many people have expressed their frustrations that this is allowed to happen for the second time in our community. They are calling for Government officials to step in for and Police to lay charges against the organizers of the rally held late last year.
