With sunny skies expected across the region, be sure to stay safe while out in the sun today and all summer long. There are many ways to keep yourself safe from the sun.

OXFORD COUNTY - Along with beautiful, hot weather comes danger.

High exposure to the sun without protection can cause skin cancer.

Public Health Nurse Joanne Montgomery, says to keep an eye on your skin.

"To be aware of any areas or spots on your body, then you will know of any changes. So if you're keeping an eye on things, then you will see any changes at all in how it's shaped, or how it feels, or the border. Then that should be checked out by your healthcare professional."

She shared a good way to teach kids sun safety.

"So Parents and caregivers can teach kids to be sun safe by keeping hats, sunglasses and sunscreen by the door. Much as you would keep hats, boots, mitts and coats by the door in the Winter time."

Keeping yourself safe from the sun can help prevent yourself from getting skin cancer.
