Province focusing on vaccination efforts, particularly in lower-vaccinated areas.
The provincial government is hoping to increase vaccination rates in Ontario by continuing its last mile strategy.
The latest efforts include contacting individuals who haven't booked their accelerated second-dose appointment and making vaccines readily available, especially in areas with lower vaccination rates.
"Vaccines are the best protection against COVID-19 and the Delta variant," said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. "Working with our public health partners we are continuing make it easier and more convenient to receive the vaccine. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet and have questions, I encourage you to reach out to your pharmacy, family doctor or primary care provider."
To support the strategy, the province and public health units are placing a focus on smaller, community-based clinics that are easy to access. This includes pop-up and mobile clinics, as well as dedicated days for disabled people and their families.
As well, the province has identified postal codes with low vaccination rates, and is working with public health units on vaccination and marketing strategies for these communities.
Public health units have also teamed up with elementary and secondary school boards to provide shots to students born in 2009 or later before school starts in September.
So far, over 82 percent of Ontarians 12 and older have their first dose, and 75 percent are fully immunized.
