A major funding announcement was held in Tillsonburg this morning regarding connecting people with primary care.
TILLSONBURG - It was a huge funding announcement for health care in Oxford County.
In Tillsonburg this morning, Oxford County MPP Ernie Hardeman, along with other dignitaries, was on hand as the province is investing $5,220,700 to connect up to 13,020 people to primary care in Oxford. Mayor of Tillsonburg, Deb Gilvesy, couldn't be happier about the funding.
"This announcement couldn't have been more timely. We've had a number of doctors retire in Tillsonburg as well. So, providing that access to primary care is absolutely paramount."
Gilvesy says even though municipal politics isn't responsible for providing primary care, they have heard from many residents about being unable to get a primary care provider.
"So, our role as the town, we supported the applications, sent letters of support, had conversations obviously with our local MPP and the Minister of Health on several occasions."
Thames Valley Family Health Team was the lead organization that applied for funding. It includes funds to expand Thames Valley Family Health Team services within Oxford; expand the Ingersoll Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic; and establish a new nurse-practitioner clinic in Tillsonburg.
