The MOMS Act calls for tougher penalties including longer licence suspensions and vehicle impoundment periods for stunt drivers and street racers.
ONTARIO - The Province is looking to increase the fines for Stunt driving and street racing.
The Moving Ontarians More Safely Act or the MOMS Act will introduce strict penalties for speeders and street racing. This include longer driver's licence suspensions and longer vehicle impoundment periods for drivers who are caught stunt driving, street racing and aggressive driving. Stunt driving is when you are doing over 50 km/h the posted speed limit.
The MOMS Act still needs to pass through the legislature. It would also introduce measures to protect pedestrians and highway workers, improve truck safety and strengthen the province’s oversight of the towing sector by creating the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, 2021.
Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney introduced the MOMS Act in the legislature yesterday.
"Both as Minister of Transportation and a parent to driving-aged teens, I am extremely concerned by the rising numbers of young drivers in Ontario caught stunt driving, street racing and driving aggressively. By increasing driver’s licence suspensions and vehicle impoundment periods, the MOMS Act sends a clear message to drivers – driving is a privilege and those who threaten the safety of others have no place on our roads."
