Dr. Kieran Moore warns new variant is on the rise, despite overall decline in cases
Ontario's top doctor says while COVID-19 and flu cases are declining, the province needs to remain vigilant.
Dr. Kieran Moore says a more transmissible variant is gaining ground, with several parts of Ontario reporting a rise in the XBB 1.5 variant of COVID-19.
He notes while the new strain has not been associated with severe illness, it could become the main variant in the province.
Moore says overall, hospitals are seeing a decline in flu, RSV and COVID-19 cases.
According to Moore, flu cases peaked at the end of November.
