Six party candidates will run in Oxford in the Ontario 2014 Provincial Election.
WOODSTOCK -- Oxford's provincial election candidate roster is set after nominations closed for candidates Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
After nominations closed, according to Michael Szala, Election Clerk for the Oxford Returning Office, each returning office is to recite a public reading of the writ.
"There has to be an official reading. How you do that is completely up to you, but we enjoy the glitz and glamour and all the pomp and circumstance..."
Szala and officials working the 2014 election in Oxford, elected to bring in the Town Crier for Ingersoll and Zorra Township, Doug Turvey to read the official words.
"Today with the close of nominations for the candidates in each riding and just before those close we're to do a public reading of the writ. We invited Doug the Town Crier to come and do that in a much more official way than any one of us could."
With nominations now closed, the local field sees six candidates on your ballot, all representing registered parties in Ontario.
Mike Farlow will run for the Green Party, Ernie Hardeman is seeking re-election with the P-C Party of Ontario. Bryan Smith is your NDP candidate and Dan Moulton is running for the Liberals. Tim Hodges will run for the Freedom Party of Ontario and Devin Wright is on the ballot in Oxford as the Libertarian candidate.
With the field set, Szala had additional information for voters looking to vote specifically at upcoming advance polls.
"We have six candidates running in the Oxford riding, and you can vote any time at the returning office, by special ballot. We also have advance polls running from Sunday, June 1st to Friday June 6th, and those are open 10am-8pm from Monday-Saturday and 12pm-5pm on Sunday."
Szala says jobs are still available to work polling stations on polling day, June 12th. Those interested should contact Bob Martin at (519) 421-1343, or you can apply online at: www.wemakevotingeasy.ca
