Woodstock's Waste Depot is finally about to open in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Household Hazardous Waste Depot is finally about to open in the Friendly City.
It will start collecting household hazardous waste, electronic waste and bulky items tomorrow.
It was supposed to open last fall. Works Superintendent Alex Piggott explains the reasoning behind the delay.
"We had to order the large dumpsters or the bins that are in there and get a lot of the contracts in place for the handling of the various waste because it's not just household hazardous waste that's being received there. There's also electronics, tires and bulky items so we have to have contractors in place before we can open it up."
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for eight months of the year. It will also be available on Saturday's from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will only be open on Saturdays for two months during the winter.
Piggott says it will be a free service for Woodstock residents.
"All they have to do is show their ID at the gate, we'll ask them what they're bringing in and from there they will be directed to go see somebody else on the site to direct them where that material has to go."
