Families in need of financial assistance this back to school season have until August 20th to sign up for United Way Oxford's Supplies4Students program.
OXFORD COUNTY - Families looking for some extra help this fall can now register for the Supplies4Students program through United Way Oxford.
The program allows students to purchase school supplies for the fall, thanks to donations from the community. Executive Director for United Way Oxford Kelly Gilson explains why it is important for the students to pick out their own supplies.
"It allows dignity, it allows families to customize their support and it gives people the opportunity to participate in the community, the way we all want to for our own back to school needs."
Gilson says the program has been a huge success and helped countless students in Oxford County.
"Last year, the program, which is a collaboration of organizations across the County, we supported just under 1,200, local, Oxford County students."
United Way Oxford is going to be able to match donations for Supplies4Students this summer thanks to a $10,000 donation from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company. United Way will use those funds to match donations this summer, until they hit the $10,000 mark. That means if you donate $100 to Supplies4Students, they will have $200 to spend on local children to help them get ready for school in September.
Families looking for some extra help can apply now. Registration officially opened on Monday and you can register online here.
