SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - A former Council member in Tillsonburg is running for Ward 1 in Southwest Oxford.
Mark Renaud served as Deputy Mayor and councillor in Tillsonburg for 11 years and is an active member of the community as a former Kinsmen and Optimist and the current Chair of the Tillsonburg Airport Advisory Committee.
Renaud says that the growth in Tillsonburg has brought new issues that are affecting Ward 1. One issue Renaud wants to address if elected is the speeding problem.
"We do have a real problem with speeding and traffic. To add insult to injury, recently, Oxford County passed a traffic by-law where they actually increased the speed limit from 50 to 60 in some of the urban settlement areas which I think just really flies in the face of public safety and security."
South-West Oxford will have their election for Ward 1 only, as all other positions have been acclaimed.
Renaud feels it is important to give the public a choice at the polls, and that he can do excellent job with his experience in knowing how to get things done and influencing positive outcomes.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 24.
