A micro farmer from Zorra Township, known online as the Rural Dad is giving back to his community with a charity garden.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - A micro farmer from Zorra Township is helping local families with his charity garden.
Jeffrey King started his online persona the Rural Dad after quitting his job to stay home with the kids, while his wife pursued her career. King says things have kind of taken off since then.
"With the pandemic causing a lot of issues for families due to the restrictions and unemployment, I thought if I could help people with fresh produce, that would be a lot of relief for these families."
The Rural Dad videos on YouTube and Tik Tok are family friendly and feature King's passions, which include grilling on the BBQ and gardening. Recently they were able to donate several boxes of food to 7 local families with Norm from Thunderstruck Ag, who is a big sponsor of the charity garden.
"Norm had a contact with BBBS Oxford, who provided us with some local families that could actually use the help."
King says the reaction from the families was fantastic.
"People were just happy to see it, to have these fresh vegetables that were grown for them. Some of the cheaper foods in grocery stores, tend to be less nutritious like a box of KD, or canned food, so I thought the fresh vegetables would be a nice change for them, especially the ones with young children, to give them something healthy to eat."
King will be doing more donations from his charity garden. You can follow along on YouTube with his rural dad page where he shares gardening tips and will have some recipes too for the food he is growing or through the videos he shares on Tik Tok.
