City council approved the name change from Cowan Park to Cowan Sportsplex.
WOODSTOCK - Cowan Park is operating under a new name as the Cowan Sportsplex.
City council approved the name change during a council meeting on February 21st.
As a result, Mayor Trevor Birtch says altering the name will cause less confusion.
"At a recent council meeting we approved re-doing one of the major fields at the Cowan facility to be able to be a home for football in the Friendly City, and we're going to see other future developments coming up to make it more of a multi-use facility, so re-naming the entire area the Cowan Sportsplex will help differentiate it with the Cowan Fields at the North East Rec Centre."
Birtch adds no additional changes will be made to the complex at this time, but he says naming rights are available for other programs looking for an updated facility.
"We do have a sponsorship policy and there is many businesses and industries that are looking to leave a legacy here in the city and we have many programs that can use updated facilities, and there are naming rights available. So come forward with any ideas and any cheques that you have that the city can put to good use for recreation."
